"A Norman Rockwell painting come to life, a feast for the eyes and soul. Butler creates perfection with Ada and Garreth, leading us along on their romantic journey.” Bestselling author, Trish Leger
"With fear holding my heart, I followed [Ada and Garreth's] story and prayed right along with them.
A definite must read to add to your shelf!" Linda Cotter, blogger
Every day for twenty years, a Mills family woman has manned the goods trolley at the Pleasant Street train station. Every day since the Second World War began, Ada Mills has watched the passengers come and go, secretly wishing for an adventure, a way out of Legacy Falls.
She never expected to find forever.
Garreth McGinnis only wanted a pack of smokes and a fresh baked scone from the pretty girl selling wares on his stop over train ride through a place called Legacy Falls. A smoke and a bite led him to the girl who he couldn’t keep from his thoughts as he lay awake at night fighting a war that shouldn’t have been his. One letter becomes two. Two becomes ten and Garreth spent the whole of the war completely under Ada Mills's spell.
Falling in love through lines of ink was one thing. Meeting the future that waits on platform four once the war ends, is something altogether different.
Once the bombs have quieted and the soldiers return home, will the dreams of forever be all that Ada and Garreth's letters promised or will reality leave the couple wishing they'd never sworn to meet on platform four?

What an absolutely lovely read! Platform Four - A Legacy Falls Romance tells the wartime story of a chance encounter between a soldier and a woman, at a train station in a small town. Ada, the strong-willed and loyal provider of snacks and cigarettes for the weary travelers she services daily meets Garreth, the native NYer with the Irish brogue, going off to fight the Germans during WWII. Their easy banter, their polite flirting and their stolen glances in the 5 hours they spend together are just the beginning to a long-term relationship via letters they trade almost daily while he is away. And just from those letters, excerpts that are shared in this novella, we get to watch as Ada and Garreth fall deeply in love, knowing in their heart of hearts that their brief time together was only the start to love that was meant to be forever. The author gives us a close-up view as to life back in 1944 and 1945 and all the sacrifices both the soldiers and those left behind endured. Ada's small town suffered greatly with devastating loss and this was happening everywhere. I shed a tear more than once for the unbelievable sadness and desperation felt each and every day. Never knowing if your loved one would make it home and not knowing how to carry on despite all the uncertainty. Family was of extreme importance during those uneasy days and this novella captures that feeling perfectly.
The tenderness, the sweet desire that both Ada and Garreth relayed to each other in their letters was the soul of this book. I loved every word and enjoyed this refreshing departure from most of the more erotic books that I tend to favor. Eden Butler wrote a touching novella that I encourage everyone to read to experience a love that is simply beautiful. Life was much simpler back then but no less intriguing.
A solid 5 stars!

Platform Four A Legacy Falls Romance edition by Eden Butler Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
4 1/2 stars!!
Eden Butler is an author's name that has been going around my circle of book friends for a long time. So when I saw this beautiful book cover, was intrigued with a 1940's era WW2 war romance, I was in! I just needed something different, and the novella length appealed in my busy schedule. This definitely delivered!!
This was so lovely!! I appreciated the author's research and attention to detail, creating an authentic feel to that time. The language, the clothes, the slang... I felt transported to that world. The thing that got me, was the slow build of old-fashioned romance the touches, the glances, the holding of pinkies, the discussions. Followed by the Pining. Strong pining commences as love letters go back and forth. The pining that caught my breath a few times.
This is a sweet romance, and proceeds go to charity. I fully recommend this for a lovely departure from reality, a gorgeous romantic weekend read. And, I'm excited to check out her other books. Although this is "Clean", she has a reputation for sexy and emotional writing.
I feel like I took a trip back in time today to when a generation worked hard, lived in fear of their men dying in battle and loved with a fierceness that only got stronger with time. Platform Four was such an authentic trip to the 1940s - I loved the slang, the description of the clothes and the way Ada and Garreth fall in love, through old-fashioned love letters. Eden Butler did a fantastic job with this World World II-era romance. The writing is so vivid and tangible and even though this novella is only a little over 90 pages, it is packed with so much emotion that I found my heart in my throat at times. Ms. Butler does an excellent job portraying emotions of the time - young love caught short by war and fear of loved ones dying.
This is the story of an Irish-American soldier, Garreth, who meets a young woman, Ada, selling sundries from a cart at a train station in a small, American town as he is shipping off to war. The two begin writing letters during his time overseas and they fall in love through these letters. I loved reading how they expressed their love, their fears and their uncertainty for a future together. The letters are truly beautiful. Ms. Butler shows the reader what a blossoming, old-fashioned romance looks like and it was so refreshing. Such a simple yet original story. Also, readers are shown how a country survived during the war - the sorrows and heartbreaks and the happy reunions. Our nation changed after World War II and so did it's generation. Ms. Butler shows this in Platform Four and does a generation proud. This was such a fantastic debut into historical romance from this author. I hope she continues to write this genre.
This was some piece of wonderful, a war-time historical short read. This book literally put its hooks in and told a complete, in depth story and didn't let go to the last page. All previous war-time historical books I've read have been set in Europe or England. This book was set in the US, alongside European letters from the front and I really enjoyed this perspective.
Ada the heroine has a brief encounter only lasting a few hours with Irish Garreth.
"He seemed, well, genuine. Maybe it was the flash of something helpless in his eyes, or how he held tight to my arm not as a possession but almost like a lifeline, that gave me the impression he wasn’t being forward, but was actually just the smallest bit desperate."
Garreth might have felt desperate, getting ready to travel to the front, but he was a man I took to immediately. What ensues between these two is heartache so darn palpable that my heart ached too. There is a strong theme of family in this book and all those elements made for a rich story.
"“When I give my word, it sticks, Miss Ada.” He’d said that to me the day we met. I believed him then. I believed it now."
The writing was excellent and the description vividly transported me to the era, the characters and the feelings. The feelings, they poured out of me in this one, especially from 60%.
Eden Butler showed great talent in writing a story just over 100 pages that had depth and completion and had all the feels. If she writes more from this genre and era, I'm on board; a favourite of 2016.
